About Best for the Children

Putting Children First When Families Change

When families face the difficult journey of separation or divorce, children shouldn’t become casualties of adult conflict. At Best for the Children, we believe every child deserves to maintain loving relationships with both parents, even when those parents can no longer be together.

Founded by family law attorney Jack Kent, Esq., our mission is simple yet profound: to help parents navigate custody challenges with wisdom, empathy, and an unwavering focus on their children’s long-term wellbeing.

Our Founder’s Story

Jack Kent, Esq. began his career as a traditional family law attorney, winning cases in contentious courtrooms across the country. But after witnessing too many families destroyed by prolonged litigation—and seeing the lasting impact on children caught in the middle—he knew there had to be a better way.

“I’ll never forget the 8-year-old who asked me why her parents hated each other more than they loved her,” Jack recalls. “That moment changed everything for me. I realized that ‘winning’ a custody case means nothing if the child loses pieces of their childhood in the process.”

With over 20 years of family law experience, Jack has helped thousands of families find collaborative solutions that keep children’s needs at the center of every decision. His approach combines legal expertise with genuine compassion, offering parents strategic guidance that prioritizes healing over hostility.

Jack’s Credentials:

  • Juris Doctor, Harvard Law School (2003)
  • Licensed to practice in California, New York, and Texas
  • Member, American Bar Association Family Law Section
  • Certified Family Law Specialist
  • Featured expert on CNN, NBC, and in the Wall Street Journal

Every article, resource, and recommendation on our site is grounded in current research on child development, family psychology, and evidence-based legal practices.

Real-World Experience

Our team has collectively helped over 5,000 families navigate custody challenges, from simple uncontested agreements to complex high-conflict cases.

Child-Centered Focus

We don’t just talk about putting children first—we provide specific strategies and tools that help parents make decisions through their child’s eyes.

Collaborative Solutions

While we prepare parents for court when necessary, we prioritize mediation, negotiation, and collaborative approaches that preserve family relationships.

What Makes Us Different

Most family law resources focus on winning. We focus on healing.

Most websites provide generic legal information. We offer personalized strategies based on your child’s specific needs.

Most approaches pit parents against each other. We help parents become effective co-parenting partners.

Most resources ignore the emotional toll. We address both the legal and psychological aspects of family transitions.

Our Impact

Since launching in 2020, Best for the Children has:

  • Helped 10,000+ families avoid unnecessary litigation
  • Achieved 85% success rate in mediation referrals
  • Supported parents in 50 states with practical guidance
  • Prevented an estimated $12 million in legal fees through early intervention strategies
  • Been featured in Family Court Review, Parents Magazine, and The Today Show
